“You were still sleeping weren’t you?” She asked, her words sweet and rich as a particularly seductive dessert.

It had never been difficult to wrap him around her little finger whenever she was in need. She knew exactly what buttons to push. For a fleeting moment, she remembered a few of those encounters where her buttons got pushed. In all the right ways.

Carter mumbled a response similar to yes and she chuckled, shaking her head slightly, the wavy curls bouncing softly in the afternoon sun.

Amanda wondered why he was sleeping so late in the day. She could imagine him the night before, hunched over his work, highlighter in hand. The cute way he bit the tip of his tongue when he concentrated on a particularly difficult problem. It was something she had always admired during their study sessions in college. And then there were their “study sessions.”

Their “study sessions” were often a release from the pressure they were both under. Still, it had been a fun distraction. A distraction that occasionally still showed up in the form of daydreams while Amanda was alone. The solace they had found in each other back then still warmed Amanda on lonely nights.

“I need your help. Do you think you can make it to the house by dinner?” She knew Carter lived only ten minutes from them but she also knew he would always be willing to help her, no matter what.
